Rotobrush Coil Cleaning: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
We stock Rotobrush-compatible coil cleaning and condenser coil combs for the Air-Cat and Revolution series, and can install most replacements same-day in San Antonio, with installed coil cleaning jobs typically falling between $145 and $310 depending on coil access, severity of buildup, and whether your unit is a compact portable or a full truck-mount system. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Rotobrush, but we’ve been working on their gear since it started showing up on San Antonio vans years ago. Most owners discover coil trouble the way Marcus does on job sites: a system that began running hot, tripping high-pressure limits, or blowing air that is noticeably weaker than the day the equipment was new. A clogged or smashed coil is usually the culprit, and it’s one of the most common repairs we diagnose in warmer months. Tell me what you’re seeing, and we’ll tell you whether it’s worth fixing.
Which Rotobrush Models This Applies To
Rotobrush has built a few distinct machine lines over the years, and coil compatibility is not universal across them. The coil cleaning kits we install cover the Air-Cat 225, Air-Cat 250, Air-Cat 650, and the Revolution 1 and Revolution 2 series. The older Air-Cat 225 uses a smaller evaporator coil than the 650 and Revolution, and they do not interchange, even though the machines look similar from a distance. Before we order or pull a coil, we check the nameplate on the side of the unit. The model and serial block is usually a white sticker near the power input or the blower housing. If the sticker is gone, which happens often on machines that spend years riding around San Antonio heat in a van, we measure the coil face dimensions and count fins per inch. Aftermarket coils from third-party suppliers are available for most Rotobrush units, but we recommend OEM Rotobrush coils for anything still under warranty, and a quality aftermarket equivalent for older machines where the OEM part has been discontinued. The one gotcha we see: Revolution series coils use a slightly different refrigerant charge spec. If a shop swaps in an Air-Cat coil on a Revolution machine, the system runs, but never cools quite right, and the compressor works harder than it should.

Signs Your Rotobrush Coil Cleaning Is Failing
- The blower runs but air temperature climbs. A coil caked with dust and condensate can’t pull heat out of the air. In San Antonio’s humidity, this happens faster than in dryer regions because moisture glues particles to the coil face.
- The machine kicks off mid-job. High head pressure from restricted airflow across a dirty or bent coil triggers the unit’s thermal cutout. It shuts down for a few minutes, then restarts, then shuts down again.
- Water pools under the unit. A plugged coil means condensate doesn’t drain right. We see this most on truck-mount units parked in full sun between jobs; the freezing and thawing cycle warps the drain path.
- Coil fins look crushed or flattened. Coil cleaning brushes, dropped tools, or debris kicked up in attics bend fins and choke airflow. A fin comb can sometimes straighten them; a coil split from impact cannot be fixed.
- The compressor sounds strained, or you smell a faint burning. That’s a compressor working against a coil that isn’t rejecting heat. The smell is often dust burning off hot metal. Left uncorrected, this becomes a compressor replacement, which is a far larger invoice than coil work.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For most Rotobrush Air-Cat and Revolution machines in San Antonio, an installed coil cleaning with new hardware, coil comb, and gaskets runs between $145 and $310. Full replacement coils, if yours is split or beyond repair, generally run $320 to $580 installed. The spread comes from access: a portable unit on a garage floor is straightforward, while a truck-mount buried behind shelving and other equipment takes longer to reach. Every quote we give in San Antonio is a written flat price before work starts. You’ll know the number, the parts, and the labor, and it will not change at the end. Our coil work carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the coil fails within 365 days on a covered repair, we come back and make it right at no charge. We do not charge for diagnosis when the repair moves forward.
DIY or Call Us?
Coil cleaning itself is not a high-risk job the way electrical or gas work is, but it is easy to get wrong in a way that costs money later. You can safely check the coil face for visible buildup, check the drain pan, and verify the unit is level, which matters more than you’d think on truck-mount machines parked on sloped San Antonio driveways. What we’d caution against: using a pressure washer on a coil. It folds the fins flat and drives dirt deeper into the core. Chemical coil cleaners are also easy to overapply, and the residue eats coatings over time. If the coil is bent, brittle, or the machine is still under warranty, call us. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it sounds like a cleaning, a coil comb, or a full replacement, and you are welcome to decline the visit. Our number is (430) 233-7681.
FAQs
A properly maintained Rotobrush coil typically lasts 7 to 10 years in San Antonio’s climate, but that lifespan drops sharply if the unit is stored in a hot van or direct sun, where dust, humidity, and thermal cycling degrade the coil faster. Running the unit through a Texas summer without cleaning the coil is the fastest way to cut that life in half. Call (430) 233-7681 and we’ll quote a cleaning or replacement before you commit to anything.
It depends on the damage. Bent fins can often be straightened with a fin comb, and surface buildup can be cleaned. A coil that has split, corroded through, or lost its refrigerant charge cannot be safely repaired and must be replaced. We will show you the coil and explain the damage before any work is authorized.
Most coil cleanings take 45 minutes to two hours on a portable unit. A full coil replacement on a truck-mount system can take a morning, depending on access. We schedule San Antonio coil work in a single visit, and we’ll tell you the time window before we arrive.
We stock common Rotobrush coil cleaning kits, combs, and gaskets on our trucks, and we keep replacement coils for the Air-Cat and Revolution series in our San Antonio inventory. If a part isn’t on hand, we can typically have it within one to two business days. We also work on and stock parts for Lennox, Trane, and Carrier units.
